Performing Arts
Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate

Bethlehem College recognises Performing Arts as a powerful form of expression that brings glory back to our Creator. Through participation in the performing arts students learn the importance of having a creative approach to problem solving and developing new ideas. School productions are a highlight for both Primary and Secondary students, as are opportunities to challenge themselves through competitions and grow through Itinerant Speech and Drama lessons. Drama course selections are available from Secondary and can be found here.

Productions

The talents of Bethlehem College students are showcased in school productions every two years in both Primary and Secondary. BC productions are renowned for their high level of performance, music and stagecraft, and are enjoyed by the wider BC community.

The school production takes students on a journey of shared creativity, teamwork and fun, allowing students the opportunity to foster excellence in the performing arts.

Primary productions are musical and Secondary productions can alternate between musical and drama productions.

Competitions

Throughout the year, BC students are able to compete at local, national and international competitions.

  • Yearly Talent Quests are held for each of the schools in a 'You've Got Talent' format with dance, music and more!
  • Performing Arts Societies offer speech and drama (dramatic characterisation, prose, reading, impromptu), dance (ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop), etc for budding performers.
  • Inter-school competitions include the annual Shakespeare Festival in Wellington and the DanceNZMade where students compete against their peers for recognition.
Itinerant Lessons

Speech and Drama lessons aim to develop versatility in the use of language and oral presentation and performance skills. Through the use of drama, poetry and public speaking students gain confidence in expressing themselves with clarity, develop an appreciation of literature and build a rich vocabulary.

Students are able to sit Speech NZ or Trinity College Examinations. These examinations are held in a supportive environment and give candidates a clear sense of progress and achievement.

Lessons are held during school hours on M/T/W/F. Please contact Lee Watkins ([email protected]) or Katy Lietze ([email protected]) to enquire about lessons.

lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes'  (Isaiah 54:2).
