Madeline Fleming has been selected in the U18 New Zealand Hockey Training Squad with a camp being held in December to determine a final team. This is a significant achievement and we wish her all the best for the final team selection.
Junior Bay of Plenty Volleyball Championships began last Friday with three Bethlehem College Teams competing for a top seed placing at the upcoming Junior North Island Championships. The Junior A Boys Team played some fantastic Volleyball to keep their hopes alive for a top position in their very competitive pool. Their significant win against the dominant Otumoetai College was a highlight of the Boys weekend. Some great teamwork and committed play by all team members was the secret to their success. The Girls Junior A team also did extremely well in winning three out of their four games with their only loss being against Taupo. The Junior B Girls played some great Volleyball in their first game of the Championships beating a committed Otumoetai College team and then staying as a tight unit to take another two wins to go through as one of the top seeds in their pool too. A fantastic start by all three teams. They continue to play throughout the next two weekends.
Bethlehem College Coaches and students were honoured at the Tauranga Hockey Awards last week. Maddy Fleming received Junior Player of the Year, Lincoln Churchill earned Male Coach of the Year and Denym Clarke achieved Secondary School Coach of the Year. Ex Student Hugh Lees achieved Umpire of the Year. Considering these are awards for the Tauranga area Bethlehem College was well represented.
