Sports Report May 17th – what is sport all about?

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen some great comradery and support from our students towards one another and from our community towards our athletes and those who find sport challenging …

Recently Basketball season started and the Intermediate Boys C team had a fantastic win against Mount Maunganui Intermediate. The parents were great supporters of the team and pitched in to help with the score bench. The team was coached by our year 11 student coach, Jamie McCardle, and the boys who were injured came along to cheer on their team mates. It is great to observe students giving back to sport by coaching and parents ‘mucking in’ to help the boys play the sport they love! This has also been the case with our awesome students coaching in Netball, Hockey and Football.

Last week we also took our Athletes with Disabilities to Rocktopia where they showed enormous courage to scale the different coloured walls.  Lawson Greenway showed that he was fearless as he scaled the leap of faith and also went on the giant slide. Once again all students encouraged each other and their amazing teachers aides were so supportive and helpful in making it a great outing and sporting event for our BC students.

Bethlehem College Athletes have continued to really impress over the last few weeks across a multiple of different codes.

Meila and Jamie Eades along with Emilie Logan have been selected in the U18 Midlands Hockey team. This is a significant achievement because this representative team encompasses a wide area from as far away as Rotorua, Hamilton, Whakatane and includes Tauranga and Katikati. We wish the girls the best of luck for their representative season ahead.

Jakob Bourne has been delivering some excellent performances in recent Motorcross events. In many instances he has taken out titles in both School based and club events.
