To gain direct entry to Bethlehem College Secondary - international students must have an intermediate level of English or above,

Years   7 - 10          IELTS level 4.5
Years 11 - 13          IELTS level 5.0

It is very important for students to be able to cope with the second language demands of studying mainstream subjects.

Upon arrival all students are assessed for their langauge competency and are placed in an appropriate course level.  Assistance will be given with subject choices.  There is a range of subject options available such as:  hospitality, marine studies, photography, physical education, sport science, texties technology.

If a student does NOT meet the criteria for direct entry, an intensive english language programme may be completed at the Bay of Plenty English Language School (BOPELS).

Upon successful entry into Bethlehem College, students are encouraged to prepare for NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3.  NCEA Level 2 University Entrance literancy is offered as part of the Year 13 International Course.  Advanced students may choose to prepare for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination which takes place twice a year.  Guidance and advice is available to students to help them gain the necessary qualifications to continue with a tertiary education.

ESOL is one of the subjects offered by the College for Years 11-13.  Support is available to assist students in Years 7-10 in their subject areas should this be required.

At Bethlehem College, academic reports are completed in Terms 2 & 4.  Copies of these reports are forwarded to parents or agents.
